World Kindness Day

Kindness generates kindness and more motivated employees. Here's how to celebrate:

Good deeds must be done every day, right? However, November 13th, World Kindness Day, is the ideal time to carry out special activities that remind us of the importance of these practices in our daily lives, including in the workplace.

Small attitudes can make a difference in the relationship between company employees, improving the corporate climate and coexistence, which consequently will motivate them. See some examples:

  • Praise someone's work: We are increasingly accelerated and this feeling often makes us forget simple things like praising and recognizing someone's effort. Here at B2, we have the Program of Reconnaissance, where through a daily and anonymous vote, each employee can recognize someone's work or attitude. Through weekly meetings, all teams have a few minutes to talk about what they are developing, which allows and encourages us to not only vote for people on our own team.

  • Be empathetic: Understanding your co-workers is the first step to creating and maintaining a healthy relationship so, before making any judgments, try to understand situations, mood changes, absences... Really have a different perspective on someone's negative moments/statements.

  • Offer help or favors: Often, no matter how overwhelmed an employee is, asking for help can seem like a demonstration of “weakness”, so when you notice a need, how about offering a “helping hand”? Or even a coffee, a water...It can make that person's day much better! Just be careful not to “embrace” demands that exceed your limits.

  • Greet every day: The difference that a good day/afternoon and night can make is immense. Arriving at the location and not saying anything can immediately create an awkward atmosphere, so try to greet everyone daily. When doing a kindness, the employee is naturally encouraged to repeat this behavior and thus we generate a “chain of good” in the company.

Check out some things to do on November 13th and every other day:

  • Anonymous sweetie: Doing a kindness and seeing someone's happy face is priceless! Prepare an action among employees, where they must treat themselves to their favorite sweets, but without revealing themselves, just leaving the treat on their colleague's desk, preferably accompanied by a nice note, of course.

  • Kindness ranking: Use your internal communication channels (such as TV or APP) and create a ranking with the kindest employees from each team of the month, semester, year... You can complete this ranking through a vote between the teams to find out who these employees are.

  • Motivation Mail: How about creating an exchange of feedback and positive messages between employees? It can be nominal or anonymous, the idea is to praise as mentioned in the topic above. Also using your communication channels, you can share these responses in a very creative way, for example: obtaining an APP/intranet, create a survey where employees can respond to the highest quality of each, and then post the results in a layout very nice where everyone can see the answers.

  • Kindness Checklist: On the 13th, spread kindness booklets and chocolates on employees' tables, where the theme would be “Have I been kind today?”, and there will be some topics that will help employees remember to do good deeds daily. Example: Have I praised anyone today?; Have I already apologized for my mistake today? The idea is that this list promotes reflection and even extends outside the company, thus becoming routine behavior for everyone, everywhere.

enjoy it World Kindness Day to put some of the ideas into practice and keep them frequent, for everyone's well-being. Oh, and let's not forget the basics, huh:

  • Look at the person while talking, don't touch your cell phone;
  • Listen – and pay attention – to what people have to say;
  • Give thanks for small gestures;
  • Always teach by showing how others can improve;
  • Use the magic words often: Excuse me, please and thank you.
